August 31, 2025 – Squirrel!
Sadie went on a field trip to her foster grandma’s house this weekend and was fascinated by the forest creatures who visit the patio there.

August 24, 2025 – Frisbee Request
Sadie has an absolute obsession with playing fetch. She is looking for a family who loves throwing balls & frisbees as much as she likes catching them.
August 8, 2025 – Storms, Frisbee, and Living with other dogs
The first week Sadie was in her foster home, strong storms came through. Sadie was already nervous about all these big changes in her life, and she paced from one spot to the next until she finally landed behind the shower curtain. As the storm subsided, she peeked out from underneath and was so cute, we couldn’t help but capitalize on her fear. As long as you don’t validate her fear, she comes out of hiding pretty quickly now that she’s more comfortable here.
I offered a puzzle game the other day, and she was absolutely uninterested. She isn’t interested in food, and she is certainly NOT food motivated by any stretch of the imagination. A frisbee though? She will do ANYthing for a floppy frisbee! Even jump into a swimming pool for the first time. It takes most dogs several visits to the pool before they jump in on their own, but Sadie was doing it in 10 minutes. Frisbee is everything! Playing ball is a very close second though.

Sadie tosses her ball to her foster siblings, trying to engage them in play. She has never lived with other dogs before, and she hasn’t really figured out how to engage with them. She is incredibly intense with a very strong eye, so some of our dogs are intimidated by her and choose to avoid her. The youngest dog in our pack has taught her how to wrestle, and they’ll play hard for 20 minutes straight. However, Sadie has decided she hates our deaf dog and will run at her and “attack” her any time they’re in the same room. There are never any injuries, just lots of noise and posturing, and they’re both wet with slobber when I break it up, but it’s proven to us that not every dog is going to get along with Sadie. Approved adopters are required to bring their current pets with them to meet any foster dog, but it’s going to be especially important with Sadie.
If you don’t have other pets, Sadie would do very well as an only child again. She will relax and sleep at our feet when the other dogs are not around. When they are, she can think of nothing but herding them. The only thing that will redirect her is a floppy frisbee! 🙂

Silly Sadie has not lived with other dogs before, and she’s learning that they don’t throw her ball like people do. Or maybe her foster siblings will learn how to toss it for her?!

July 6, 2025 – Sadie arrives at her foster home
Sadie is a purebred Border Collie. She is a 4-year-old female tri-color, ticked, smooth coat. Her coloring is so unique that even our experienced board members assumed she’s a mix, but rest assured, Sadie has papers!
When you meet her, there’s no doubt she’s a BC. Herding instinct is strong with this one! If you have the skill set of throwing a toy with one hand while doing something else with the other, Sadie wants to meet you! She’s okay with you kicking a ball, but she prefers floppy frisbees. She makes us laugh when she uses her strong Border Collie eye to try moving the toy. It’d be interesting to see if sheep respond better than toys do 🙂
Sadie is very sensitive to loud noises. The 4th of July is the worst day of the year for her. Last year, her family crated her to give her a safe space while they took their young child to see the fireworks, but Sadie panicked, even breaking teeth, trying to escape the terrifying noises. She startles easily, running when car doors slam or someone sneezes loudly.
Sadie was very loved by her family and they were heartbroken to relinquish her, but Sadie’s obsession with herding their toddler was not a healthy situation. Sadie never hurt their child, but she wouldn’t eat, drink, or potty until the child was in bed. Sadie was unable to relax knowing the kid was around. Therefore, Sadie is looking for a family without young children so she can live a life with less stress.
