Dera

ADOPTION PENDING

You must complete an adoption application with WBCR before we will consider you for one of our Border Collies (under the “adoption” link). Then go to our PayPal link to pay the $15.00 application fee. One of our volunteers will check your references, and then another will come to your home to meet you & your family in person before the board will vote on your application. If you are approved, we will arrange a time for you to meet the dog(s) you are interested in. If you decide he/she is perfect for you and the board agrees, we will schedule a day for you to pick up your Border Collie, sign adoption paperwork, and pay the $350 minimum adoption donation. This whole process may take a month or more, as all WBCR members are volunteers and we’re committed to making a perfect match for our border collies. Thanks for your patience!

Dera is a female, approximately 5 months old. She still has several baby teeth to lose, but she has lots of big girl teeth in already. She has gorgeous markings on her legs! Red ticking fades to black, making her a very unique tri-color. It’s very possible Dera is a mix, but her drive and energy made her a perfect fit for Border Collie rescue.

We chose the name Dera when she came into foster care – an Irish name meaning “wild spirit”.  Nothing could suit her better 🙂 She is learning rules (such as No bite, Off, and Wait) very quickly. She has a terrible habit of jumping up and biting your clothing when she’s excited, so that’s our main focus right now.

Dera’s foster home has 6 other BCs and she is doing great with all of them (male and female, ranging from 1-8 years old). She reads other dogs really well and adjusts accordingly. She loves to play with toys and chew bones. She also jumps up on furniture as though she belongs there. She’s quickly learning which furniture dogs are allowed on and which they are not.

Potty training is also a focus right now. Admittedly, we are spending a lot of time outdoors (thank goodness for decent weather!), but she’s only had one piddle accident in the 2 days she’s been here.

We have lots more to learn about her, and she has lots to learn in general, but she’s a very happy, affectionate, high energy, super fun little girl!
